Who is Gordon Ryan fighting at ADCC 2024? Frustrated fans trash ‘boring’ Super Fight reveal, demand refunds

Gordon Ryan’s upcoming “Super Fight” is … well, not so super.

The no-gi “King” has been booked to face off against longtime rival Felipe Pena at Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) 2024, scheduled for Sat., Aug. 17 and Sun. Aug. 18 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The event is expected to stream live on UFC Fight Pass.

Ryan will collide with Pena on Aug. 17 and then return to battle Yuri Simoes on Aug. 18, assuming his stomach doesn’t explode. In addition, Pena is scheduled to compete in the 99+ kg division as well as the absolute division.

Fans remain unimpressed.

Haven’t we seen this 3 or 4 times already???

Craig vs. Gabi is more exciting and far less predictable than this nonsense… Gordon Vs Meregali would have been much better. ADCC is very poor this year…

Imagine how much they paid Gordon to face the same old guys he already beat… and then imagine how much the rest are getting paid.

We’ve seen this movie too many times already, blah.

This was cool 4 years ago.

Who asked for this? Gordon’s picking fights like a boxer now smh.

Who seriously wants to see this?!?!? No one!!! Get someone else!!! Get my boy Mason Fowler in there!!!

This makes no sense. Gordon will walk right through Felipe … can I just get my money back at this point?

Nobody wants to see that boring fight again.

Odd announcement. Guessing last weeks Yuri super match announcement metrics are in and they weren’t that great, huh?

Ryan’s biggest rival, Craig Jones, has opted to skip ADCC 2024 (because of this).

Ryan and Pena have battled three times over the years, with Pena holding a 2-1 lead. Their most recent showdown occurred at Who’s Number One (WNO) back in Aug. 2022 in Frisco, Texas, with Ryan winning by technical submission (forfeit).

WNO booked a fourth fight in early 2023; however, Ryan fell ill and was forced to withdraw.

“I’m getting kind of bored attacking people lately,” Ryan wrote on Instagram. “I’ve beaten all your heroes and done things no one will ever do in this sport. I know it’s upsetting, but it’s true. Most people on social media are simply too dumb in their arguments to engage with, and no amount of facts or arguments will change their minds. You know, you guys are right! I’m here to say, I still occasionally read the the schizophrenia that is my comment section sometimes, and maybe will respond sometimes too, as I do enjoy it, but answering back to the same old delusions is just getting boring. Nonetheless, keep commenting, guys, it helps me kill with engagement and makes me (more) rich.”

“I don’t respond to haters but here’s an essay ain’t no one reading,” Jones replied.

Expect more ADCC 2024 news and updates in the coming weeks.
