Vinicius Junior makes Real Madrid contract plea following Champions League victory

Vinicius Junior claimed he wants to remain at Real Madrid forever after scoring in the 2023/24 Champions League final victory over Borussia Dortmund.

The Spanish giants lifted the trophy for the 15th time on Saturday night thanks to Dani Carvajal’s header and Vinicius’ finish following Ian Maatsen’s error.

Their victory silenced the thousands of travelling Dortmund fans who were hoping to end their 27-year wait for a second Champions League trophy.

Brazil forward Vinicius etched his name onto the scoresheet in the 83rd minute to strike for the second time in a Champions League final, having bagged the winner against Liverpool in 2022.

Vinicius’ contract with Madrid runs until 2027 having signed a contract extension in October 2023 and the success prompted the 23-year-old to comment on his future, with the La Liga star saying he hopes to remain at Madrid forever.

Speaking after claiming the title, he said: “I’m very happy to be able to win another Champions League with this club, which has given me so much. It’s an incredible thing. Not everyone can experience it and win it so many times. It looks like it’s easy to come here and win.

“We suffered a lot throughout the season, with all the injuries we’ve had. Everyone has worked incredibly hard to get here.

“I’m very happy to have been here for so long. Hopefully the president can renew my contract because I want to be here forever and continue making history like Carvajal, Nacho, [Luka] Modric or [Toni] Kroos.

“They have won the Champions League six times and they’ve shown us the way. I want to be like them. I’d like to retire here, although I don’t think the people at Flamengo will let me.”
