The Miami Dolphins entered the offseason with a few questions to answer ahead of the 2024 season.

They answered one of them by signing Jaylen Waddle to a three-year extension worth nearly $85 million.

Waddle has been a meaningful contributor on this roster, and the team wanted to keep him tied to Tyreek Hill on this offense for the foreseeable future.

While Waddle got the extension he was looking for, the Dolphins also found themselves in a similar situation with Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa is entering his fifth season, which is usually the time when quarterbacks get a contract extension, if not sooner.

The Dolphins have been working on a contract with Tagovalioa, but it might not be in line with what he is looking for.

Jeff Darlington recently spoke about the state of these discussions in a conversation on the NFL on ESPN.

“You’ve got a situation because right now, the Dolphins are not offering the contract that is the market value,” Darlington said.

Other quarterbacks in Tagovailoa’s class have already gotten massive contract extensions, so it might seem surprising, at least on paper, that the Dolphins haven’t followed suit.

However, there have been some public concerns about Tagovailoa’s recent injuries, which could play into the Dolphins’ willingness to offer him a similar-sized deal.

The Dolphins have played well in the regular season under Tagovailoa, but they’ve yet to make a deep run in the postseason during his tenure.

Will the team’s contract offer continue to reflect his postseason performances to date?
