The dog days could be about to end for the Washington Commanders, as they may have their true quarterback of the future on their roster right now.

Jayden Daniels, whom they took with the No. 2 pick in April’s draft, is a mighty impressive prospect, and the reigning Heisman Trophy winner will look to make the long-suffering Commanders winners.

Star wide receiver Terry McLaurin said on ESPN that Daniels is self-motivated and hard-working and that the Louisiana State University product is used to winning.

While with the Tigers last season, Daniels threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns on a 72.2 percent completion rate while setting an NCAA single-season record with a 208.0 passer rating.

He also flashed his dual-threat ability by adding 1,134 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns in 2023.

McLaurin will immediately give Daniels a legitimate playmaking threat he can rely on who has gone over the 1,000-yard mark in each of the last four seasons.

Another player who could help Daniels develop right away is running back Austin Ekeler, a free agent signing who has dual-threat ability.

In the last 30 years, the Commanders have made the playoffs just six times and have won only two games there, and their fans are starving for some real success.

The franchise was once one of the NFL’s most respected, as it won three Super Bowl championships in the 1980s and early 1990s, but that success quickly went away.

With Daniels and a new ownership group in place, perhaps it won’t be long before Washington is a perennial playoff threat once again.
