The Tennessee Titans have completely overhauled their roster and coaching staff this offseason as they usher in a new era led by head coach Brian Callahan that fans hope will finally usher in a more modern approach on both sides of the football.
One of the biggest moves of the new regime was the trade for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to come in and be the team’s No. 1 corner, and they immediately signed him to a 4-year, $76.4 million extension, which one analyst says was incredibly important for the franchise.
Legendary analyst Greg Cosell was on The Ross Tucker Podcast recently and discussed Sneed’s presence on the Titans, saying “The feeling in the league from a lot of coaches now is that corner play has superseded edge pass-rushing because of the quick-game dimension that the league has evolved into that you need physical, press corners…and Sneed is just an animal.”

Cosell praised Sneed for playing exclusively on the outside last year since that was what the Chiefs needed, and noted that there were plenty of shots of him simply mauling receivers and providing a bigger impact than any edge rusher could.
The Titans focused heavily on revamping the secondary this offseason, also adding former Cincinnati Bengals star corner Chidobie Awuzie to line up across from Sneed and form one of the league’s premier corner tandems.
Tennessee didn’t allocate much capital towards the edge rushing spot, and the hope is that this roster can do just what Cosell said and lock up down the field to give the pass rush more time to get home.
It’s a much different approach than the Titans took under Mike Vrabel for years.
